Axis Motion provides a complete 3+axis motion control system for use on profiling (and contouring) machines. The system includes all of the software and hardware needed to create drawings (or to edit DXF files from another CAD package) and to convert the drawings to the accurate and smooth motion of the motors provided.
Our aim is to solve the problems encountered by a machine builder or system retrofitter when attempting to assemble a motion system from the thousands of components available. We have achieved this by designing a complete system with the versatility to allow its use in a wide range of applications.
Highlighted System Capabilities
- Multi-depth and 3D tool paths can be executed and digitized on the controlled machine;
- An optional tangential axis is available to turn a knife;
- Height control for laser and plasma profiling is in-built and configurable;
- Laser intensity may be controlled through a parallel port by a configurable output related to cutting speed;

Uses a 600MHz+ Pentium based PC (not supplied) for the
real-time controller so that the system:
- is easy to use with an intuitive graphical user interface;
- is highly integrated;
- has large file storage available and
- repair and upgrade issues are minimized.
- Comprehensive tool path editing;
- Includes CAD facilities for graphically designing shapes.
Ease of Use
- Within an hour or so of beginning to install the system on your dedicated PC you can be designing drawings (or importing them from a CAD package such as AutoCAD) and driving the motors supplied with the system.
- Once the motors have been installed in your profile cutting machine and the input and output control lines have been connected it is only necessary to configure parameters such as the axes scales, maximum accelerations and maximum speeds.
- The machine is controlled from either the supplied Hand Console (which is normally attached to the machine itself) or from the PC keyboard.
- Jobs can be machined automatically at the press of a button.
Profiler Software The controller software, called Axis Motion Profiler, runs on a standard PC. It has a graphical user interface for performing all tasks including designing shapes, specifying a comprehensive range of cutting parameters, producing the machining tool path and interactively running the job. The machine tool position can be displayed in real-time while the machine is cutting.
Manufacturing Applications for the system are many and diverse. The system has been used to control machines with tools such as lasers, plasmas and routers.
Hardware Overview The system supplied includes all of the software and hardware needed to convert drawings from a CAD package to the accurate and smooth movement of the motors supplied with the system.
Turbo Drives Axis Motion has designed its own extremely reliable turbo drives which can be supplied as a separate component in small or large quantities.
Downloads of the editing and machining versions of the software are available as follows:
· The editing version of the software is fully functional but must be Registered (free) to enable the saving of drawing files. The editing version provides a full range of capabilities (including a drawing package) except for the ability to actually run and control a machine. This version demonstrates the capabilities of the software and is recommended as a useful tool in itself for creating DXF files and editing tool paths.
· The machining version cannot be run without purchasing a complete Profiler Control System.
