Trouble ShootingThis section describes how to overcome any problems which may arise during the initial installation and operation of your system. List of QuestionsWhy isn't the hand console working? Why can't I send files between the office computer and the machine? Why does the job not cut where I want it to? Why is the cutting speed so slow? Why is the laser intensity not changing? Why is the program interface behaving strangely? Answers to QuestionsWhy isn't the hand console working? The hand console may not be working due to several possibilities: · The hand console will only work when in Machine Mode and at the top level of the menus. If you are in a menu below the top level then pressing the Enter key on the console will go back up the menu hierarchy one level (so you may have to press it several times). · Occasionally the hand console may get out of synchronization with the computer and need resetting. This is usually indicated by junk appearing on the hand console screen. The easiest way to fix this is to unplug the connection on the bottom of the hand console itself and then plug it back in. · If none of the above conditions applies then the serial connection has probably not been set up correctly. Make sure that the CMOS BIOS SETTINGS for the serial ports are correct. If so then set the hand console communications options in the General Options dialogue to the correct values for the particular serial port being used.
Why can't I send files between the office computer and the machine? The serial connection has probably not been set up correctly. Make sure that the CMOS bios SETTINGS for the serial ports are correct. If so then set the serial communications options for file sending in the General Options dialogue to the correct values for the particular serial port being used. Make sure that the speed settings are the same on both computers. A simple program has been provided to check the connection. Run it on each computer, set the serial port number, speed and IRQ and then check that characters you type on one computer appear on the other. If not, then run the program again with different settings. Sometimes the file sending can become unsynchronised. To fix this select the File/Send/Synch option in either Edit Mode or Machine Mode.
Why does the job not cut where I want it to? To get reproducible locations for a job you must have homed the machine. Check the "Change job origin at start" setting. If it is set to yes then the job will be cut with its origin at the position of the tool when the job is started.
Why is the cutting speed so slow? Check that the default group cutting speeds and the group cutting speeds are not set to zero or a very low speed.
Why is the laser intensity not changing? Check that the parallel port setting in the General Program Options matches the parallel port actually being used. Check that the output intensity table and the scaling factor have been set correctly.
There are several possible causes for this problem: · Check that the laser configuration in the Advanced Machine Options dialogue are setup correctly. In particular ensure that the intensity output is selected, that the intensity tables are correct and that the laser type has been correctly selected (to be either pulse width modulated or otherwise). · Check that the tool control bit for the laser has been connected properly. · You can use the Test/Laser dialogue to directly fire the laser and perform diagnostics.
Why is the program interface behaving strangely? Make sure that no other device is attached to the serial port used for sending files or to the hand console serial port. Such devices may be sending data which interferes with your manual operation of the program menus.
